Access to NEON field sites for external research is governed by site host policies and permitting requirements. Since NEON does not own the property on which NEON infrastructure and observational plots are located, researchers will typically need to submit and acquire their own permits before any work at NEON sites begin. NEON can facilitate site host communications for research permits and permissions.
Assignable Assets and Research Support Permitting Process
The process for doing research at NEON sites begins with reviewing the NEON Assignable Assets Program and submitting the appropriate Assignable Asset Request Form. Once received, your request will be reviewed and permitting information will be returned along with the review results. NEON can facility site host communications with the site hosts so you may receive your own permits and permissions.
Researchers interested in working at NEON sites should review the NEON Site Access Information workbook below about contacting site hosts for site access, permits, or permissions. Please review the current status of external research work at all sites of interest prior to submitting you Assignable Asset Request.
